Kernel Density Map

Tree Density Utrecht

This is a map I created illustrating tree density in the parks and streets of Utrecht, represented through a kernel density map.

A kernel density map is a spatial analysis tool that estimates the intensity of features over a surface, providing a smooth, continuous surface where the density of points (in this case, trees) is highest. It is used to identify patterns, hotspots, and spatial distributions, which are important for urban planning, environmental monitoring, and resource management.

Understanding tree density is crucial for assessing urban green space, improving air quality, mitigating heat islands, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
