Land Cover Classification

Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) Map

Zoom in to view the NDVI for Utrecht!

I learned how to create detailed maps that categorize different land cover classifications, which are important for understanding and managing various ecosystems. These classifications help in identifying areas covered by forests, urban developments, agricultural lands, and water bodies, providing essential information for environmental planning, conservation efforts, and resource management.

Presented here is a map I created of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for Utrecht. NDVI is a measure that uses satellite imagery to assess the health and density of vegetation by analyzing the difference between near-infrared, which vegetation strongly reflects, and red light, which vegetation absorbs. This index is important for monitoring plant growth, drought conditions, and overall land health, offering valuable insights for agricultural planning, urban development, and ecological conservation in Utrecht.
